On Europe’s Edge

Earlier this year, the European Union celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. What started as an economic club of six western European countries has grown into a complex union of twenty-seven nations. But now it’s a waiting game for countries that are trying to join the EU. BBC Brussels correspondent Oana Lungescu investigates the problems facing countries that seek membership.
PART 1

Only half of people in the EU want the club to continue admitting new members. It's against this backdrop of 'enlargement fatigue' that Serbia, among others, is making a case for membership. The BBC’s Oana Lungescu examines whether the ghosts of Serbia’s past will hinder its hopes for EU membership.
PART 2

Of all the countries aspiring to join the European Union, Turkey is the biggest and the most problematic. Most of the country lies geographically in Asia. And at a time when Turkey's membership talks seem to have stalled, Turks are getting increasingly frustrated of waiting for an invitation to join the EU.
