2008 will be the most expensive presidential election this country has ever seen. The candidates will spend more than a billion dollars. The BBC’s Steve Evans investigates where all this money is coming from, and where it’s going. |

Steve Evans explores the impact special interest groups known as “527s” are having in this presidential race. “527s” are named after the clause in the tax code that relates to independent spending. In 2004, a 527, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, ran a highly damaging campaign that questioned Democratic candidate John Kerry's Vietnam War record. Evans looks at what role 527s may play in the 2008 election. |

About a third of all U.S. ambassadors are not career diplomats; they're political appointees. And almost all of them are major donors to political campaigns. In this documentary produced for the BBC World Service, Steve Evans examines the link between contributing to presidential campaigns – and being named an ambassador.
