In this two-week series, internationally known filmmaker Sorious Samura takes radio listeners on a gripping, personal journey through Western Africa.
FIRST HALF
Sorious Samura begins in the far northeast of Ghana, known as the land of the Spirit Child. Disabled infants there are thought to be evil spirits, and are put to death. Samura meets those fighting to save the lives of those “spirit children,” including an accomplished 12-year-old musician whose songs against infanticide put him at risk, too.
SECOND HALF
In this documentary produced for the BBC World Service, Sorious Samura goes undercover in Accra with one of Africa’s leading investigative journalists to follow a story on human trafficking. Anas Aremeyaw Anas is known for putting the bad guys behind bars. But as Samura learns, some of Anas’ journalistic methods may be questionable.
THE CHANGING WORLD is the sister documentary series of PRI's The World. Each week, we offer American radio listeners two in-depth documentaries from the BBC World Service that probe issues critical to our understanding of our evolving world.
