In 2007, the BBC’s Jenny Cuffe profiled several young refugees as they set out on dangerous journeys across sub-Saharan Africa. She now returns to try to track two of them down.
FIRST HALF
Jenny Cuffe catches up with Innocent Akibor in a refugee camp in Italy. She learns of his struggles to get asylum, and of his efforts to acclimate to a new culture. She also travels to Nigeria to visit Innocent’s village, and uncovers the real reason he had to leave.
SECOND HALF
Fereinatu Amedu was a teenaged victim of trafficking, forced into prostitution, when Jenny Cuffe first profiled her in a BBC World Service documentary in 2007. Fereinatu had escaped and returned home. Now, Jenny searches for Fereinatu again, only to learn that she’s vanished without a trace.
